HAMAKOM JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL

About the Festival

The HaMakom Jewish Film Festival brings to Santa Fe award winning films that inform about Jewish culture, arts, history, religion or tell the story of a Jewish individual of note.  Started last year to sold-out audiences, the Festival transforms "going to the movies" into a "movie-going experience",  Each film is followed by a discussion, speaker, or interview with the filmmaker.  These are some of the best films playing the Jewish and International Film Festivals world-wide.

THE FILM

Winner of five Israeli Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director and the Audience Award at the Locarno International Film Festival, director Eran Riklis (The Lemon Tree and The Syrian Bride) brings this adaptation of A.B. Yehoshua’s critically acclaimed book A Woman in Jerusalem to the screen.

The Human Resources Manager of an Israeli bakery tries to make amends for the indifference of his employer to the death of an employee killed by a suicide bomber. The Manager embarks on a complex journey, beginning in Jerusalem and continuing to a frozen post-Soviet country.  In agreeing to direct the film Riklis commented: “There was something about the basic journey with death to discover life … and on a more a personal level, the never-ending quest to find yourself”.
